Video Card Replacement. How?
Hi Guys,
My iMac 27" Mid 2011 (EMC 2429) recently broke down due to a graphics-chip failure. I don't know wether it overheated or just broke for some reason, fact is it needs a replacement. I read about somebody having his card replaced and it wouldn't require soldering, what I was thinking the whole time (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/302...)
My graphic chip is (or more likely was) a AMD Radeon 6970m with 2 gigs of video ram.
First of all: Has anybody done something like this before a can tell me from their experiences? And, more important, can i buy an iMac graphic chip like this (or better) somewhere separately?
I would really much appreciate if someone would take the time and answer to his. Thank you!
Greetings from Germany,
Jonas Naue

I have the same problem here in Geneva but the Apple store keeps on insisting to replace the logic board instead of the video card. I believe it's the video card that has to be replace because I do repair computers before when I was still using PCs. I can repair Macs but parts are expensive if you buy them on-line and there is no computer parts store here in Geneva that sells Mac parts.
