Will a 12.5mm HDD Fit?

I want to buy a 1TB HDD for my Macbook Pro Early 2011. I'm aware that the size of the hard drive should be 9.5mm. All the 1TB drives I found are 12.5mm, but I read 12.5mm drive would fit and be okay and I have also read that it won't fit. Can someone please tell me if I bought a 12.5mm 1TB HDD if it would just take up a little more space and still fit or if the bottom tray wouldn't fit after installation.

Thanks,

Adam

3mm doesn't sound like a lot but in these tight systems it can. You want the gap between the case for air flow and to isolate the drive from being bumped (flexing in).

Did you checkout Western Digital? Here's a link to the Blue series and you can find a few choices their that will work for you WD Blue - WD10JPVT

Here's Seagate SSHD option (hybrid) Seagate - ST1000LM014 which we use. Here you gain the SSD speed Vs a straight HD only option.

In both cases these drives are 9.5mm high.

These both have only 5400RPM I was looking for something with 7200RPM.

Gee… Your hard to please ;-}

The 7200 RPM drives ran on the hot side (a good lap warmer too) causing the the fans to kick in which many people didn't like either. We found going with the Seagate SSHD units was in fact better than going with a straight 7200 RPM drive. I think you'll be happier with the Seagate SSHD in the long haul.

But if you must have a 7200 RPM drive, here's Western Digitals Black series but they only go to 750GB WD Black - WD7500BPKT

I've installed about a dozen WD Black 500 GB and have never had a compliant or one come back.
