Can the keyboard be replaced?

The keys S,D,F,J,K on my keyboard work randomly. I really don't know whether they will register each type i press them.

I have checked the site's guides but there are none for keyboards. Apparently you have to change the whole top case if you have a faulty keyboard. Is this true? I did find keyboard replacement parts in eBay...

Thanks for taking the time.

The keyboard on the unibody systems is part of the top case assembly. Some people have managed to get the keyboard units directly from China and there is a few people who now specialize on repairing/replacing the keyboards (you send in your top cover you get a replacement).

The work to disassemble the entire system and then take the keyboard out is quite extensive. There are over 50 screws or pop rivets that hold the keyboard into the top case. Here's a good vid on the process MacBook Pro 15" keyboard removal & repair.

You might only need to pop off the key caps and clean under them. Here's a good vid on how to do that Key cap removal.

Let us know how it goes - Good Luck!
