Got a crack on the right hand side of the screen it goes about three quarters of the way up and i cant put the password in to unlock it because the right hand side is completely unfunctional

ciara, "Got a crack on the right hand " sounds like a broken digitizer. Replace the "touch window". Here is a decent teardown that will show you what you are up against. Here is a video that might help you as well. The digitizer is available at places like this as well as on here and many others. Hope this helps, good luck.
