What adhesive is safe to use for keyboard rubber cap under spacebar?

The rubber cap or nipple, as some call it, in the center under the spacebar on my MacBook Pro 17" is torn. I have ordered replacement parts. Some instructions on the web say to use super glue, some say to use silicone adhesive. What adhesive is safe for the cap or is adhesive not needed? If not needed, how do I make sure the cap is in place when putting the spacebar back on? thank you.

Also, how do I remove the old one? I've tried to gently squeeze and pull but it appears to be firmly attached somehow.

I'm not referring to the white plastic clip. I'm referring to the "rubber cap" - the nipple that sits in the center of the clip. That is the piece that I need to replace.

It is true that you need a little bit of glue to hold it in place, otherwise it is possible (doesn’t always happen, but it can) that the rubber cap will get completely out of alignment with use and stop activating the circuit underneath.

I put a tiny blob of superglue on the tip of a needle, then spread it on top of the rubber cap, so that the rubber cap would stick to the plastic key-piece covering it. This effectively keeps it in place, if you don’t mess up the alignment when you add back the key-piece. The advantage is that no superglue gets on the circuits and plastic mechanism underneath/around the rubber cap.

Interesting idea to glue it to the key cap but I believe if the circular base of the plunger is not glued down then it doesn't have the correct shape when plunged. Essentially its base squeezes out at the edges instead of the top of the plunger going fully inside the circular base. This might mean it doesn't push back up as strongly giving a softer key feel.
