That is not completely correct!
1. Find the serial number from the label on the bottom of the laptop.
2. Download your original OS from Digital River.
3. Download your drivers on a USB
4. Create installation USB or DVD for the OS.
5. Install
6. Activate with your serial - now you have clean and legal Windows 7 at no additional cost. Cheers!

i COULD NOT FIND ON dIGITAL rIVER AND LINK FOR DOWNLOADS LET ALONE GETTING WINDOWS 7!

mike hryszko, if you formatted the drive and lost the recovery partition, you will have to either get an HP restore disk (contact HP) or purchase an OS, in your case Win7, and install as per software vendor instruction

I cannot remember any Windows install disk having the ability to create a recovery partition
