Phone 4s backlight not working after slight water damage
My daughter has/had an iPhone 4s. She put the phone in what she thought was a waterproof bag and went kayaking. Supposedly only a small amount of water got into/into the phone, but the screen wasn't working. I took the phone apart and let it dry. I noticed that the connectors to the LCD seemed a little dirty, so I cleaned them up. Still, the screen didn't work. I assumed the screen was bad, so I replaced the screen. The screen worked for approximately 5 seconds after the new screen was installed (the Apple logo showed up) and then it reverted back to the problem state. I can see that the screen works (and the old one did as well) but the backlight isn't working.
Since that time, I've taken the logic board out, soaked in alcohol for 30 minutes, took a soft toothbrush and cleaned up the contacts for the LCD and other connections. It still doesn't work.
Has anyone out there replaced a logic board in one of these phones? Is that even a possibility? Do I need to get an AT&T board since I use AT&T?
Any help is appreciated.
My alternative is to wait until the iPhone6 comes out, upgrade my iPhone5 and give her my iPhone5. Not a bad deal for the girl who damaged the phone I guess.
Thanks,
Michael

Yes you can replace the logic board, and that might be your only option. It sounds like the component on the board that controls the backlight working properly has been shorted out, corroded off, or otherwise. I have done it before but I don't remember where it is located on the board. If you buy a new one, be sure it is not blacklisted and is the same carrier you currently have for sure. And as always, be careful where you buy it, very hard to test that a board works PERFECT, and someone could be selling you one with the same problem.
