Screen slowly fades to white

My 2007 MacBook has been having display issues recently whereby the display will slowly fade to white, from the edges inwards until the whole screen is completely white. It can be returned to normal generally by flexing the display slightly.

I recently replaced the inverter cable after issues with the screen going black (backlight not on but text/windows still barely visible) and all was well for a few months until this issue has now arisen.

Do you think this is the LCD going or an issue with the data display cable?
