My camera is turned on, but when I attempt to take a photo, a memory card error messages flashes on the screen. I don't want to lose any of my photos, but I still need to take more. How do I stop this message from occurring?

Your memory card may be full. A good rule of thumb would be to constantly transfer photos to your PC and delete them from your SD Card often so as not to lose photos you have taken.
