Acer Aspire 2347 stuck at Windows logo

So my Acer Aspire (Windows 7) can't get past the "Starting Windows" screen anymore, its just stays there forever. The laptop is about 5 years old, but it was working just fine until about a week ago when I updated some software, including the AVG antivirus freeware. At least that's what I imagine it is. I did disable AVG in Startup items, but that didn't work. I tried all of the built-in repair processes, "Repair computer" "Repair Startup" and eRecovery and they all brought up errors, error scans didn't bring anything up either. I even tried reverting to Last Known Good Configuration and that didn't work, previous versions just seem to be unavailable. Basically I tried everything but "Restore to Factory Settings." I did get the blue screen for a brief moment so now I'm wondering if there's hardware failure. It couldn't complete any of the Windows recovery options. Or could it still be something where AVG is conflicting with MacAfee?

The battery had become completely useless before this happened, and if you move the power cord an inch it would before off. I don't imagine that would be related but I don't know much about this stuff.
