When I turn the camera on the lens pops in and out and I am instructed to power down the camera and then power it back up again, but results do not change. The battery is charged, the memory card is in place, the camera is clean. The camera simply stopped working and this error message keeps appearing, how do I fix it?

Donald Rankin, this behavior is common with a lens error. If your camera senses that it can not extend or retract the lens it requests a reset. Since it does not resolve it, you probably will have to replace the lens. Check on here for a few suggestions you could try. Ultimately it sounds like a new lens is needed.
