Can anyone help me understand why my sound is not working?

I have been unable to hear any audio from my laptop for a few days now and I am worried.

Hi,

Have you checked the volume level or whether you have 'muted' the audio?

Have you checked for audio from the headphones socket?

Check in Device Manager to see if there is a red cross or yellow exclamation mark against the sound controller listing.

What OS is installed? If Win 10 to gain access to Device manager, press Win key + x key together and a box will open on left of screen, click on Device Manager.

Scroll down to Sound, Video and Game Controllers if there is no red cross or yellow exclamation mark , click on arrowhead to expand list then right click on the sound controller entry and select properties. View what is written in the Device Status box regarding status.

If there is a red cross against the sound controller, right click on it and select 'enable' and see if sound works after that.

If yellow exclamation mark right click on entry. select properties, select Driver tab, select Update driver option and follow the prompts.
