Top of K-Cup With Large Hole -

My issue with the large elongated hole in the top of the k-cup is the result of the top of the unit (holding the penetration needle) not aligned properly with the bottom (holding the k-cup) as the needle penetrates the k-cup foil. It does not always happen, but I figured out when does happen. The telltale sign of this misalignment is when the top seems to hang-up slightly (with a 'click') just as you are closing the top down and the needle is penetrating the foil. Essentially the needle enters slightly off center, then when closing the top down all the way, the needle is then pushed toward the center, creating a large hole. The problem is resolved by putting slight pressure inward on the lower k-cup housing as you are lowering the top down. The root cause is poor mechanical design allowing mis-alignment of the top and bottom while closing.

I had the same problem. However, I’ve found that if I just push the pod against the bottom needle by hand until it pops and seats before closing the upper, it solves the problem.

On mine, the lower housing wasn't being pulled back in all the way, so it would close smoothly if I gave it a little push straight back. The hinges around the closing mechanism and hinges were gummed up with brown stuff. I unplugged the unit, put it in the kitchen sink, sprayed hot water from the hose all over the closing system, and it loosened things up so that lower cowing/housing would retract fully when the lid was closed.

I'm not sure I understand how to remedy this without ?damaging nthe hinge?, breaking off the upper 'needle',Please advise. I'll try it realizing that there's a good chance I'll sacrifice then unit.

I have the same issue and I don't feel the needle any longer. What could have happened and is there any way to fix this problem? Or do I need to trash it and get another coffee maker?

All I did was push the pod down untill the bottom needle pierced the pod, then closed the head untill the upper needle pierced as usual . Havent had a problem since. Nice round hole top and bottom, no tearing. no spilling. No splattering. No loose grounds.

Perfect!

Works every time. Thank you Steven.
