Dell S2340L randomly shuts down

Hi, I have a three year old Dell S2340L that works perfectly fine until last week. However it starts to randomly shut down after some time of usage, often refuse to even turn on at all.

I suspect it to be a hardware problem and has tried the following.

Replace the HDMI cable with another one.

Use VGA instead of HDMI

Connect to another laptop.

Reset all monitor setting to factories setting.

Reset power options in my laptop and set to no screen saver and never turn off displays.

All to no avail.

The only silver lightning seems to be that it seems to work after some rest time. The rest time is proportional to how much time I would be able to use the external monitor before it turns off again. For example, if I unplug all cables from the screen for 5 mins, I would be able to use it for a few minutes. Unpluging the whole night would give me a full day 8 hour usage.

Really appreaciate if anyone could provide some insights for this problem. Thank you :)

You say 3 years old.

Check the warranty statement that came with the monitor documentation as checking online indicates that there may be a 3 year manufacturer's warranty on the product.

If you can't find the documentation, go online to check the warranty period for your monitor in your location as it may vary

If the warranty period is still valid, (check your sales receipt or proof of purchase document to verify), then follow the instruction in the warranty statement as to what to do to make a claim for a warranty repair.

If it is is out of warranty or the warranty period does not apply to your location, then perhaps you should remove the back cover from the monitor and check for any bulging or leaking capacitors or heat stressed components. Do this with the power disconnected from the monitor.

Hi, it's slightly above 3 years so warranty has just finished :(

Blown capacitor sounds very likey. Will try to open it up and see what can I do from there. Thanks :)

ok, first take out the ac adapter than hold the power button do 15 seconds. Than plug the ac adapter back. Press the power button and hopefully it will work.

Hi, the problem is with an external monitor, not with the laptop. Will try it but I doubt it would help. Thanks lots anyway :)
