Can I upgrade the 2TB fusion drive on mid 2017 27 inch iMac

What kind of SSD does apple uses for its 2TB fusion drive? I read on your website that the 2TB is composed of 128 SSD and 2TB 7200 rpm drive. Can I upgrade the 128 SSD with a 3rd party nmve m.2 ? Is there an adpater for it?

Remember: You can only put ONE partition on an Apple Fusion drive.

Do not use the M2 blades in a Mac, They are not reliable. Either go with an Apple original or an OWC. Basically in a fusion drive set up the SSD acts as a cache. Why do you feel you need a larger one? You may be trying to upgrade the wrong drive. What are you trying to accomplish?

The fusion drive is in the pc world a hybrid drive.

Conventional hard drive platters with a ssd portion of memory on the controller board. You can't simply swap out the Chip and attach a nmve m2...

Your only option is to purchase a bigger hybrid hard drive..

While it does have similarities to a Seagate FireCuda hybrid SSHD, which has a SSD setup as a read/write cache. A Apple Fusion drive is physically two drives! a SATA HDD and a PCIe blade SSD. So both drive bays are used. In addition, the OS controls the cache not the hardware as in a SSHD.

BTW - I often put in FireCude drives into Mac's as they have an advantage over a standard HD and only require one port. If someone needs performance then I try to get them to go with the blade SSD over the SATA drive, as a dual drive setup is superior! Than a Fusion Drive setup.
