I stupidly bought and plugged in a cheap power charger to my Yoga 900. It was going to be my portable back up.

It immediately shut the computer down.

The charging light was NOT lit on.

I then tried to used my OEM charger. The light still doesn't turn on.

I pulled the back cover off and took the battery off. Held to power button for a minute to dissipate the capacitive charge. Reconnected the battery. Still NOT on. Charging light still NOT lit.

I heard that the CMOS may need to be replaced?

I dont think this yoga 900 comes with one?

The manual said the system board needs to be replaced?

Update (07/31/2017)

It looks like the power port connects directly to the system board.

When you took it apart was there a daughterboard beside the motherboard with the power port on it? Or was the port connected to the motherboard?

It looks like the power port connects directly to the system board.

did you solved somehow?

I have the similar problem. Neither it charges nor boots. There is no sign of life at all! As warranty is over, I want to fix myself. I just would like to know possible solutions. Replacing power jack cable, battery or etc.

I also did the same mistake, bought cheap charger not to carry to office everyday. I don't want to invest more unless I'm sure changing power port will the problem. (I dont think power port is the problem, because it seems only a wire).

Worked like a charm!! I had a problem with my Yoga not starting up. Would boot for a few seconds then turn off. I purchased the tools to open my laptop then just disconnected the battery, reconnected it and problem solved.

Hi @nick3470

If by ‘sweet spot” you meant that the charger had to be connected just so for it to work, perhaps the DC-In jack is the problem

Try replacing it and check if that resolves the problem for you.

If you have a Lenovo 900-13ISK2 here’s the hardware maintenance manual that may be of some help.

Go to p.46 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to replace the DC-In cable. The link for the cable is only to give an idea of the cost of the part and what it looks like. There are other suppliers that my suit you better. Just search for 5C10K48429 to get results

Thank you so much for the response. The weird part is I would have to pull the charging block out of the wall a bit to find the sweet spot, not the cable out of the computer. I got a new OEM block and cord and now not charging at all. Will still power up and operate great just wont charge. I tried removing the battery and trying to run on ac power and will not power up that way either. If it is still operating just fine as long as it has battery has life left, it seems like something to do with the charging? Motherboard should still be ok, right? This is the best laptop I've ever had and hate to lose it. I have ordered a new battery and dc jack, just to try. Thanks again for your help.

I really hate the power brick that came with this awesome notebook. It's so finicky; both prongs are the same width, so it never connects solidly on the first try.

I think that's to facilitate the foldaway style plug, but it just makes for hassle.

I bought a replacement that doesn't have the flip down plug, but like most of the folks on this forum, it appears I've blown something out with a crappy charger.

I'm also not seeing any light indicating a charger is connected, nor am I able to turn it on.

Gonna give it a bit, to see if the battery is just so dead it's not ready to start, then I'll try to dis/reconnect the battery as recommended.

Wish me luck!

To fix it I replaced the mother board. That's no separate or daughter board I could take apart. It's all hard soldered into the main motherboard.

Also, the I/O board was fine.

I have the same issue, I purchased a non OEM charger from Amazon and worked well for over 6 weeks and last night when I plugged in the AC power it isn't showing the power light and the 30 second reset button does not respond Where can one purchase a motherboard for the Yoga 900?

Well I am sad to say, if you did not use an OEM or charger with the same voltage you probably fried your laptop. Your system board will need to be replaced and more than likely your SSD if it was fried. If you have enough money it is cheaper to replace it entirely than to pay someone to replace the entire board.
