Will my headphones work with any audio cord that is 2.5mm?

I don't think so. The spacing of the connectors on the plug seem to vary. I got an Apple specific cable and had no problem listening to my Mac. But I tried both cables on an American Airlines flight and neither worked.

Just to reiterated what my colleague is already implying. The 2.5mm diameter will not make contact with the 3.5mm diameter jack. It will not fit.
