5c battery repair fail. Not turning on, maybe just no screen. help?
So I got a new battery and toolkit for my 5c. Confidently and following the instructions I opened it up and removed the old battery. I took a sortof stupid approach to the battery removal, I cut the plastic open, took the battery innards out (with gloves, Nickel cobalt manganese and lithium, nasty) and then was able to easily peel the plastic out without prying.
put in a new battery, reassembled. nothing.
doesn't turn on. no sound, no ring, no vibrate and dead black screen.
I've noticed if I plug into a computer, it recognizes that there's an iPhone (but I can't "trust" it without a screen)
if I have someone call me, it rings on their end (like the phone is on, not direct to voicemail as it does when it's turned off) but phone remains still and dead on my end. I have noticed that I can hit the volume buttons to send the call straight to voicemail.
I think the screen's maybe dead. I didn't remove it when changing the battery and was also careful not to open it all the way and risk pulling the cables.
I also have since tried to open the screen wire cover and unclipped and removed the screen. nothing was detached when I got in there but I removed and reinstalled anyway for good measure and no change.

Did you unplug the battery before attempting to replace the battery?
