2 Screen is washed out- calibration does nothing
A client has a 2012 MacBook Pro that is running perfectly -except- the screen is way too bright and washed out. When I created a new user account and logged in as that new user, the problem disappears and I could calibrate the screen (which I made "available to all users"). When I logged back in as the client and tried to use that calibration, there was no improvement; still washed out.
I remember encountering this sometime in the past and did manage to fix it but, it's been so long I've forgotten what to do. I zapped the PRAM, deleted what display prefs I could find, booted into safe mode.
I will mention that, after the client logs in, the screen looks okay for about a second or so and then it appears as though some window may be opening and disappearing in the blink of an eye after which the screen problem instantly appears.
I could move her account over to a new user but I know there's an answer to this involving some magic keystrokes during boot and/or trashing a bunch of prefs, etc.

I'll add that the client recently upgraded (hah!) to High Sierra. I'd move her back to Sierra but, because the second user account works fine, I know this isn't a HS issue.

If you have a SSD you can't move back without wiping the drive ;-{
When the installer see a SSD it will auto migrate it to APFS file system.

The "move back to Sierra" is a red herring. I'm asking about fixing the video issue. Thanks but please re-read my post.
