Water damaged iPhone 6 dead overheating PMIC - no shorts found

Hi, I took my friends iphone 6. He said a drop of water went in from the top of iphone. And the phone is dead now. I cleaned the motherboard with alcohol. Changed the battery and charging port. When I plug the phone to my dc supply the PMIC area gets hot. I checked for shorts on almost all of the caps and couldn't find any short. Then I used a freeze spray to find what was getting hot on board. And PMIC is the thing that gets hot. I disconnected the battery and plugged the charger into the phone then measured the voltage from the battery port. It was unstable and changing 2.0v to 3.8v. ( I am pretty sure that charging adapter is fine it is brand new and I tried different ones too)

So, now I am about to replace the PMIC. I think thats the problem. Should I try anything else before replacing PMIC?

I am newbie at phone repairs but I do trust my soldering skills.

Thanks

You have to to do better than just randomly checking capacitors. Open up the schematic and boardview and test every single output that the PMIC generates. Check for shorts first while there is no power. Chances are you will find an obscure line that is short. Then check downstream on that line to see if the problem is with the downstream circuit (for example, a sensor or camera etc.) or if the PMIC itself is actually damaged.

Of course you could just shotgun it and replace IC's until it works but that doesn't help you understand the issue nor help you in identifying problems in the future.

when you put freeze spray on the pmic and add dc power just turn dc on and off quickly to see whereabouts on the pmic gets hot, like a corner or centre etc. if it went in from the top i would say check c5202_rf

It starts heating from the left center. (exactly right here https://goo.gl/XLWLaA) But I also checked the c5202_rf it seems ok.

You really need the board ultrasonically cleaning, what tends to happen is the corrosion gets under the chips where you cant see it, so just cleaning what you can see wont do the job im afraid.

I did put it in a ultrasonic cleaner 2 times. With %98 isopropyl. That did not do the trick.
