Turn the power off and on again

So frustrated!

My lens extends just fine the lens cover opens up and all but on the screen the message

“Turn the power off and on again” pops up on the screen

can’t take any photos of course and my camera takes a rechargeable battery which i have a charger for and fully charged.

Tried cleaning the lens (without taking it apart) and tried hitting it gently like some of the comments said as responses this the posts about this. Nothing is working… I’m a single mother of 2 can’t just afford Togo out and buy a new one this really sucks…

any advice? Please help
