As above really…is there any possibility of getting a replacement drive working for a PS4 (CUH-1116A) that does not have its original drive & logic board? Would any of the newer drives which don’t have a logic board work?

They are paired with an encryption key. At least for older models as far as I know. Replacement drives will not work without key.

Indeed, it's the same with the PS4s as before with the PS3s, the blu-ray drive board that originally was with the PS4 at least is required in order for it to work.
