Shuts down while running heavy software.
I purchased the computer in May 2017 and this problem began occurring in July 2018. When running heavy software, games for example, and plugged into the AC adapter the computer will shut down and requires holding the power button for about 30 seconds to power back on. When powered back on it displays this message:
Real Time Clock Error,
System CMOS checksum bad
Time-of-day not set - please run setup program
The light will also flash orange 3 times pause white 1 time. The computer functions normally with lighter software. I replacing the CMOS battery with a CR2032 I ordered online, the CMOS battery needs to be connected with wires, and I thought it would be easier than trying to connect wires to a CMOS battery. This didn’t fix the issue.
What would be the best course of action to take? Is it likely the battery I ordered was bad/ not compatible or is it another part?

Hi @orne ,
Have you checked that the fan is running OK and that the fan vent is clean and not obstructed?
It may be that the laptop is overheating when running intensive programs

Ok, I'll try cleaning the fan, I don't think the vents being obstructed would be the issue on a wooden desk.

Hi @orne ,
I meant the vents being obstructed by dust internally, in the laptop itself.

I have this exact same problem with the same laptop model - did anything fix the issue?

I’m having the same problem. It’s not dust nor thermal paste problems. I have taken to a professional technician and he made a revision. In the end he did not know what is happening.
