Anyone solved the new iOS iPhone Cellular Update Failed issue?

Has anyone found a solution to the current iOS update failure of Cellular update failed? Apple acknowledges the problem on their support page, but offers no resolution other than to contact apple support.  It specifically states to not attempt a restore or a reset , which is the go to for a majority of issues, because this will result in being unable to activate the device.

Working for a repair center, we already have the annoyance of iPhone 7 acknowledged failures. This just adds to the headache of the newer models, with the latest update in software. Replacement of service antennas and reflows have been attempted, but with no repaired results. I am wondering if this update has triggered a board level failure.  Perhaps another update will resolve the issue, but anything anyone has discovered to correct the problem, as is, at this time would be helpful.

I've had this problem on a number of customers iphones. I'm of the mind that apple is (hopefully) coming up with another bug fix update for this issue.

I’ve done a soft reset (power button and volume down) and after a couple attempts it seems to start working again. However a couple days later it failed again.

I contacted Apple Support and they acknowledged this is a know issue with iPhone 7's. My phone is 2 years 2 months old, they told me this problem was warrantied for three years. Apple Store took my phone to have it shipped for repair. In the meantime, they gave me a loaner 16GB iPhone 6 (ugh!). But the bright side is that I will not have to pay for the repair or replacement if needed.

Had this problem. Went to my carrier and they said it’s very common. Went to Apple and they immediately acknowledged that it was a glitch and a non fixable problem that is specific to the iPhone 7.

If you have Apple Care, they give you a free new phone right then and there.

If you do not have apple care, then they send your phone in to get fixed and give you loaner phone in the meantime. They said it takes about 5 days to get your original phone back.

Wish I had seen this earlier, I just posted the same answer. I will leave mine up just to show it is correct and apple still offers the repair for free .

Hi, check if the iPhone is showing IMEI number *#06# or in Settings->General->About. If not most likely the Baseband IC is faulty. (without imei phone can not be activated after full reset/dfu reset).

Apple does acknowledge the cellular update failed resulting in no service, and warns against resetting. the latest IOS is corrupting the IMEI and basically deleting it from the phone, after resets it still does not exist and unable to activate. The repair center I work for is basically just tabling all these devices.

And its not limited to models, we just encountered an iPhone X.  it’s the latest SW causing the failure

I can speak to the iPhone 7 and one model of iPhone 8 . There is an article published by apple on a board level failure triggered by updates after iOS 11 . I took two iPhone 7 to the apple store today after a tech at T-Mobile showed me the article . Apple will fix any phone affected by the update cellular problem on the listed models . 1660 is the one we had . They said they will replace the boards and the battery and possibly the screen if needed . All this at no charge even without apple care . Sorry I didn't save the article but it was published in 2018 . Like I stated, they did the repair today on 11/24/19 .
