MacBook Pro randomly shuts down with no shutdown report.

Okay, I feel like I have tried just about everything to try and remedy this problem and I have found nothing. About every 12-24 hours, when I am working or when the lid is even closed not being used, the MacBook Pro will randomly shut down. If I press the power button, 1 out of about 18 times, the computer will boot back up just fine. On very rare occasions, I need to first plug the charger in, press the power button, and then unplug the charger and then it will boot up, otherwise it will basically just act like a brick. This is very rare though.

When it boots back up, it basically acts like nothing happened. I get no shutdown reports, no “your computer shut down because of a problem” message, nothing. It’s as if you woke up in the morning and turned on your computer and it just booted up as normal.

I have tried reinstalling MacOS thinking the issue was software related, I have tried resetting PRAM, resetting SMC, testing both RAM slots (the problem occurs when ram is occupied in either slot or in both of them simultaneously), and I even tried replacing the thermal paste and de-dusting the fans and overall just giving the inside a good cleanup. Battery is brand new as well. Despite doing all of this, I still have the issue. Apple Hardware test on extended testing says “no trouble found.”

I can’t think of anything else to do or test out to fix the problem or at least find out what is causing it. Does anyone know what the issue most likely could be if it isn’t any of the things that I tried fixing? Thank you for your time.

Lets double check the battery to see hows its doing. Install this gem of an app CoconutBattery paste a snapshot of the main window here for us to see 기존 질문에 이미지 추가하기 You may just need a new battery.

@danj I've read new battery and thought good battery, but you're right, there's a chance that might be the cause too.

@arbaman - There's a lot of junk being sold. As we don't know the pedigree of the battery it makes sense to check it.

The thing that the problem shows also when the lid is closed makes me think of a SMC related hardware problem. It might be some resistor is going bad and starts giving wrong readings to the SMC, I’ve seen this happening before along the sleep circuit. I’m afraid there’s not much you can do without digging into schematics and thorough components testing.
