Thomas Kinkade Wonderland Express Animated Tabletop Christmas Tree With Train by Hawthorne Village

How does the tree come apart to replace the drive motor for the trains

the trains no longer turn around the tree, but I can hear the motor running inside. How does the tree come apart so I can repair the motor or gears so the trains will move again

My problem seems to be the motor (plays music but no motion). have it apart but at bottom (gearbox) level, only visible things are speaker and PCB board. Is bottom layer glued to base.... just can't loosen?

What spec power supply does this need mine is missing

is there a place to buy a new drive motor for the christmas tree

Where do I get the motor for the wonderland express ornament?

I have a Bradford exchange tree that turns. It isn't as big as my other ones. The whole tree rotates, which no longer turns. I don't know how to fix the trains on my Bradford exchange ornaments.

Learning that the top layer was glued on was the answer I really needed. I used a jeweler's saw to cut a small slot all the way around the base of the top layer and then I poked a series of thin knives into the slot very slowly and carefully all the way around to break the glue loose--it worked! Now I have to mark and cut the wires to remove the top and other layers--mark the wires so you can solder extensions on them when you reassemble--thanks!!!

Hello David, I know this post of yours is 2 years old but hoping you are still seeing it. I'd like to know you managed to cut the glued on sections and exactly where do you cut?

Many thanks,

Bruce Adams

any one have a source for a broken plastic gear for the tree?

I just took mine apart by prying gently around the joint with a screwdriver. It worked without needing to cut it.

rquerio, are you talking about prying around the joint just below the 2nd level, where the 2nd train (that moves) is? Did you use a heat gun or anything to loosen the glue? thank you

I sawed off the topmost level with a Dremel, for the other levels I used a heat gun to soften the glue and then pried them apart. The "pry point" is the small gap between the sections, just above the animated train "disc". Be careful not to warp the train "disc", use the heat sparingly and gently pry all around (I DID warp the bottom disc, and gently reheating it and pressing down on the warped section helped to straighten it back out so that it worked again). This worked on all the levels and probably would also have worked on the top level (that I sawed off). The only thing I saw that held each level to the next were the 4 "pillars" with the long screws, no need to remove anything else. I disassembled the tree to improve the inner lighting, which does a poor job illuminating (from the inside) some of the buildings around the tree. I hot-glued an LED light string on the interior, and very please with the look. I have pix of the disassembly process if anyone would like to see them, let me know.

I have a Bradford Exchange "The Wonderful World of Disney Christmas Tree", which is very similar to the Thomas Kinkade Wonderland Express, that also had the same problem of music and lights with no motion. The disassembly was similar to the Thomas Kinkade Wonderland Express Disassembly, and I needed to use a Dremel Multi-Max Oscillating Multi-Tool to saw between layers (castle) and rest of the tree. Unfortunately, there are no wire connectors as in the example and all of the wires are soldered together, so you need to unsolder them to remove layers. There's also a white plastic cylinder on top of a metal rod (where the reindeer arm attaches), which needs to be removed. I was able to get mine off with a little bit of heat and then pulling upwards.

Once inside the tree, I opened up the motor box. Inside the motor, there was a small red rubber drive belt that deteriorated (and ultimately stretched out) and no longer had enough tension to drive everything (even though the motor ran fine). After trial and error with different size belts, I was able to find a replacement on Amazon, but it's an O-Ring instead of a belt. A package of 50 is $7. The O-Ring size that seems to be a perfect fit is 20 mm outer diameter, 18 mm inner diameter, 1 mm width.

After reassembly, everything works great. Hopefully, the replacement lasts longer than the 3 years the original belt lasted.

Thanks Chris, I asked the question for a "The Wonderful World of Disney Christmas Tree" so your were bang on there. I had it in to fix at a repair cafe a couple of months ago. I didn't have your solution available at the time, took it home and did come to the same conclusion for repair. Carefully, cut the top off with a junior hacksaw. I replaced the O-Ring and works fine. One thing I noted: You do have to be careful not to overtighten any of the level separators as the mechanism will jam if too tight. Thanks again, hopefully someone else will also find this useful.

For David Speer:

I saw a post by you from 2018 about disassembling an animated Kinkade Christmas tree.

Did you cut and pry around the joint just below the 2nd level, where the 2nd train (that moves) is? Did you use a heat gun or anything to loosen the glue? thank you

I bought one used and some of the trains aren’t moving. Once disassembled I noticed someone had been in there before and some of the gears were out. Could anyone send me some pictures and layout of the gears in order? Thanks
