black screen when power on

Hi,

It means that there is a backlight problem with the screen.

This could be caused by a faulty backlight power supply on the motherboard but more usually it is a faulty video (LVDS) cable which incorporates the backlight power cable or a faulty LCD unit.

Scroll to p.58 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the LCD unit.

This will allow you to inspect the LVDS cable connections at the motherboard and the LCD panel to ensure that the cable is seated correctly.

As I cannot find any schematics for the laptop it becomes a toss up whether the problem is the cable or the LCD unit.

On p.78 you’ll find the part numbers for the LCD panel and the LVDS cable.

If you search online using the appropriate part number for your particular LCD panel (check on the back of the panel to verify the part number) and the LVDS cable you’ll get results for suppliers of the part(s).

You may find suppliers which have a good returns policy so that you can return the unneeded part for a refund minus a small restocking fee, so as to minimize the cost to you.

In the meantime connect an external monitor to the laptop so that you can continue to use it. (even a TV can be used as an external monitor if it has the inputs appropriate to the video output port as the laptop, (HDMI perhaps)
