iPhone not turning on nor connects to PC

So I got an iPhone 3g 8GB model, and I’m sort of an expert at fixing iPhones but not this kind. So I have this problem that the phone won’t turn on nor connect to my computer, but it does receive power when I connect it to an outlet with its original charger and brick. But the only thing that happens when I connect it to the power outlet, all it does is that it shows the apple logo and then 5 seconds later it dims the display but can still see the apple logo but with no backlit on the display. And also, when I click on the sleep/power button the apple logo comes back again and then does the dimming screen with apple logo again. So my predictions are that maybe the screen is okay, but maybe it can be the battery or the logic board that is bad. So what do you all think? Thanks!

Loss of power to the backlight shows that there is not enough power. Try this:

  1. Try an iPad 2.1A or 2.4A charger.
  2. Let it charge overnight with a fire extinguisher ready.
  3. Replace the battery.
  4. Replace the charger.
  5. smash it to pieces (just kidding, please don’t)

Okay so I tried it with different wall plugs i tried the 12W and the 10W iPad chargers and weird that it only turns on with the 10W but not the 12W.

so with the 10w iPad Charger I get the connect to itunes when i do the DFU mode.

You may need to replace the battery. The 12W might be too much.

Sounds like the battery is fried the way you described it. If the backlight came on that mean that should be fine.

I was also thinking about that to, since this is an old phone i doubt that the battery has been ever replaced. And by the way this phone i got from someone else.

I would replace the battery, the cause is small, and if that does not work you can decide if a logic board is worth it. You can try a multimeter on the battery to determine the juice level.

I have had this on a apple ipod nano 4th gen you might have a bad lcd ( there are guides on how to fix them ) or a bad backlight fuse which requires microsoldering

It shouldn't be the screen because if it was the screen wouln't it turn on don't you think. remember iPod LCDs are different from iPhone LCD screens. and they require different types of connection to the logic board.

I know what you are saying , but what im saying is maybe it is not the battery and maybe it is the backlight im not sure

It sounds like either the battery is dead (likely, it’s *old*), and/or you aren’t waiting long enough for the boot process to complete. The 3g was fairly slow to boot.

If the logo is on, it’s still booting.

Likely a battery issue as it’s an old phone and as stated before, likely it’s never been replace before. We see Apple devices act goofy even if they are plugged in when they have bad batteries. Also as stated, it could just be taking its sweet time to boot up. The real question is, why are you trying to fix this thing? Can’t imagine it will be very usable unless you are restoring it for nostalgic purposes.

I would replace the battery. If that does’t work it’s probably an issue with you’r logic board.
