Water dispenser runs slow.

I have a whirlpool side by side refrigerator. We replaced the water filter and when we purged it to get out the air there was a lot of debris coming out. We returned the filter and got another one. Installed it and purged the air out. The water is clean but it runs really slow. Never had that problem before. Has anyone else had this problem and wer you able to fix it?

I have the same issue. Online research suggested that it may be a bad inlet valve. I replaced the inlet valve with a new factory replacement but the issue remains. I also pulled the new filter out and installed the factory bypass plug. With the bypass plug installed I get full flow from the dispenser. When I reinstalled the filter the water dispenses very slowly and it makes a loud vibrating noise. I have tried a few brand new filters and still have the issue.

What is the model number of the refrigerator?

Have you checked that the water supply pressure at the refrigerator water inlet valve is OK?

Usually the water authority states what the household pressure should be and gives examples how to check e.g. time to fill a bucket or cup etc.

If the pressure is low it takes a little while longer to force through the filter

Just got new French door whirlpool refrigerator yesterday. The water flow is terrible. Our old refrigerator never had that problem. Yesterday morning it worked great in the old fridge. Suggestions?

I have a whirlpool French door fridge. I just replaced the water filter and it ran well for about 50 oz and then slowed to a crawl. Any suggestions?

whirlpool French door fridge. Slows water is a problem. I tried all means and methods and new filters...The company should take care. No one cares once you buy it and bring the fridge home.

Solution 1:

Water Tube in Door is Frozen

To determine if the water supply tube is frozen, disconnect the tube at the bottom of the door and blow air through it. If air does not pass through, this indicates that the water supply tube is frozen. If the water supply tube is frozen, thaw it out. In addition, ensure that the freezer is kept at the proper temperature. The freezer temperature should be kept from 0-10 degrees Fahrenheit. If the freezer is too cold, the water line may freeze.

Solution 2:

Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve opens to supply water to the dispenser. If the water inlet valve is defective, or if the water pressure is too low, the water valve will not open. The valve requires at least 20psi to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure to the valve is at least 20 psi. If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multimeter to test the water inlet valve for continuity. If the water inlet valve does not have continuity, replace it.

Solution 3:

Low Water Pressure from House Supply

The home may have insufficient water pressure. The water inlet valve supplies water to the water dispenser. The water inlet valve requires a minimum of 20 psi to function properly. Check the water flow and test the pressure to determine if it is at least 20 psi.

Solution 4:

Dispenser Control Board

The dispenser control board governs most of the functions of the dispenser system. If the control board is faulty, it may stop supplying power to the entire dispenser system. If only one dispenser part is not working, test each of the dispenser components before testing the control board. It is more likely that a single part has failed. If the entire dispenser system is not working, the control board is more likely to be at fault.

Solution 5:

Water Filter

A clogged water filter can restrict the flow of water to the dispenser and prevent the dispenser from working properly. The water filter should be replaced about every six months to maintain proper water flow and ensure water quality.

great advice except I have no idea how to do any of the steps since I can't identify any of the devices.

My Everydrop water filter is faulty. When I remove the filter, the water flow is fine. Called Whirlpool and they refuse to replace the filter, which has only been in use for one and one half months! I can find a warehouse slip but no order number even though I have the filter and the box it came in. Turns out the filters have a 90 day warranty. Too bad for those of us that buy two at a time given their outrageous expense. I am very disappointed and will look to buy some generic brand filter if that's the way Whirlpool wants to treat their customers. I happen to have a Whirlpool fridge, double oven and dishwasher. Such a disappointing customer service experience!!!

Mayer guy above goes after a lot of different things but they are not the problem when you put back in the old filter and the water flow is good! Something recently happen at the factory that make “every drop filters” in the past year that has clogged the filter’s flow rate.

Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjShdHoi.... It is not likely to be the filter but rather the filter receiver as shown in this video. I believe a metal spacer was used in the video but I used a piece of plastic ring I had lying around. If the fix shown works for you then you have the option of leaving the spacer in place or replacing the entire assembly. Cost of assembly ranges from $60-120 so shop around.

The new filter I put in caused the low water and no ice problem. This every drop filter is poorly made! And expensive! Anyone with water flow problem should remove the filter and check, it works fine without this expensive filter

What is the model number of the refrigerator?

Since it is new contact the Whirlpool service centre in your location and get it fixed under the manufacturer's warranty.

It sounds crazy - but after about 7-8 years of owning this refrigerator this started happening to me. The problem seems to be a faulty seal on the filter. I tried multiple brand filters including the OEM Whirlpool ones. I have tried o-rings and multiple do-it-yourself fixes. I finally found a way to make it work but it is going to sound crazy - and is not an exact science. I smeared petroleum jelly on the filter and the connection and that corrected my problem it is a temporary fix and I had to apply a couple of times in the life of the filter. Whirlpool should definitely cover this but they won’t. Good luck - because like I mentioned - it is not an exact science. You just have to apply the proper amount to seal out all the air.

This had been the same problem we were experiencing. Your suggestion worked for us.

Just had this problem myself. The hard plastic ramp on the filter that is caught by the mechanism on the refrigerator itself to hold the filter in does not hold it in quite far enough. To see if this is your problem have someone use the water while putting pressure against the filter to see if that increases flow. If so, even though it might be difficult, you have to add a small spacer on the top and the bottom of this ramp on the filter not on the fridge, don’t damage that part. I used a very, very, fine drill bit put two small holes top and bottom on the filter ramp and then inserted to very small tacks, not thumb tacks.

So I was having water dispense very slow. I replaced the filter and was still having the same problem. With no filter, the water flow is great. The only issue with that, is water slowly leaks from the connection point with no filter installed.

With the old filter and new filter, it is very slow. Haven't had that issue until the last 3 weeks. I'm assuming it has something to do with the connection of the filter.

I have same issue as Todd Edwards. Did you find solution?

I'm so sorry you bought a Whirlygig SBS. They have a systemic problem. It likely isn't the current issue, but it will be in a short time. You can read all about it if you search your model. I happens to all of them. The wires in the bundle into the bottom of the freezer door -not the ones going thru the hinge- break shutting down most things in the door.

You may be able to prolong the occurance. I recently rewired my sisters unit. There is a plastic piece that directs those wires out along the bottom of the door toward the center. The wires then are bent 90° to go under the unit. The problem is, every time you open/close the door those wires must bend an additional 90°. How long do you think that will last? My sisters lasted about 1.5 years. If you remove that plastic piece, it will give the wires more slack and they will tend to turn at the hole they go into. You can pull some out from under also. Just make it so the bending becomes more like looping. Play with it a while till you get it so they don't bend at one point.

Good luck.
