Un55js8500fxza - blinking red lights, no picture... help!

Hi everyone. I’m hoping to get some help. I was watching my TV turned it off, and then turned it back on and the red status link was blinking and there is no picture or sound any longer. This TV is only about 3.5 years old! It is a Samsung and the model number is Un55js8500fxza.

I’ve read the other troubleshooting guides and have tried the hard reset by pressing the power button, unplugging the power steps… and no improvement. I’m looking for some (selfishly) personal troubleshooting steps. I know next to nothing, but I’m really of the mind that “it doesn’t work now, so I can’t break it any further… right??”. I have taken the rear panel off to get a look at the components, and nothing like bulging capacitors or a burnt board stick out to me. Any and all advice or troubleshooting would be really appreciated.

I wasn't sure how to remove the black covers... seems like I would have to force them off. So I am waiting....

@falcor00 disconnect the main board (1st picture green board to the left) from the power board (big brown board)and see if your backlight comes on when you turn it on. It is possible that this is a main board issue so let us know.

Thanks for the reply @oldturkey03. I disconnected the main board from the power board and didnt see any difference. The only thing I did though was plug the tv in. Pressing the power button on the tv or remote didnt seem to do anything. Prob because that runs through the main board? Was there anything specific I should have been looking for to determine if the backlight was on?

No that should have worked. Can you check the voltages on the connector for the cable to the mainboard? The values for that should be printed on the board. Those are all VDC so set your meter accordingly

@oldturkey03 I don't have a voltage meter. I'll need to ask neighbors... what cable exactly? The cable from the main board to the power board? Or should I keep that disconnected?

Measure on connector CNM803. the voltages are printed on the board. Also, before you do that. Keep everything connected and measure the voltage DM856 C and see if you get the 8V stby or 13Volt when you try to turn it on. Let us know what you get.

@oldturkey03 well there is an interesting development. I'll try to explain the best I can. I was getting ready to test the voltage, and I was plugging the connector (22) back into the main board and voila, the backlight came on. However it's being really sensitive. If the connector is plugged in all the way, the backlight shuts off. If I barely put the connector in, the backlight comes on…. And then if I disconnect completely the backlight stays on. Odd! Bad board? Bad connector?
