Laptop shows "No Bootable Device" when I turn it on.

Opened my Laptop to clean the fans, but when I was finished it wouldn't start up and instead show “No Bootable Device". The BIOS doesn't show the serial number for my hdd or anything like that either. The model number is AN15-53 and I was told the ribbon cable needs to be re-inserted, but I'm not sure where or how to do that.

remove the hard drive and reinsert it. check to make sure that the caddy is seated properly

@oldturkey03

Hi oldturkey,

It looks like he removed the main cover without removing the hard drive cover and then the drive. Cable yanked out.

Mike

pierre tantani your image shows mostly the battery. Try a picture straight down showing your HDD. Your computer does not see the HDD. either it has failed or it is disconnected.

HDD Connection is hidden by the I/O Flex Cable, hope that your connection is fine because looks that you forced it.

Did not see your solution until after I posted mine. So yes he must have yanked it out. Obviously the steps weren't followed in sequence!

@conlledo Thanks for the answer! Is there a way to fix this? Or do I need to buy a new laptop.

It is iFixIt there is solution for everthing, just put back the flex cable, in case the connection on the board is broken you can solder a new one. Just disconnect the cable of the second picture, and the connection should be there.

There is a M.2 Connection there, if your connection is not working you can buy a M.2 SSD that also can make your computer 10 times more faster.

Have you looked over the IFIXIT guides for this model?

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-53-55G9

The battery replacement guide shows the parts best.

This may also help to show you how to remove the drive properly:

https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answers/...

Your hard drive looks like it is sitting on the cover so I’m guessing you did not take off the hard drive cover off, gently removed the hard drive and disconnected its cable, before removing the main cover? Maybe not?

I see the hard drive connector, in your not very clear photo, connected to the drive sitting on the main cover so it looks like you inadvertantly yanked the other end of the drive cable away from the connector ON the motherboard.

The ribbon cable connects near the cooling fans. If the fan is covering it

So flip the cover over and correctly remove the hard drive cover and drive module. Disconnect the cable from the drive and reconnect the ribbon cable to the slot for it on the motherboard.

Need more help with this please ask before doing anything.

Good luck.
