The device will only work when plugged in. I have tried different plugs, cords, and outlets. as soon as it is unplugged it shuts off and does not turn on. It will also lose connections with a phone via BlueTooth connections. what would you recommend i do?

If it works when connected to power but not when on battery only then I suggest that you replace the battery. Even rechargeable batteries have a lifespan.

Replacement batteries are available online.
