lint on clothes not using a dryer

Just purchased a new Bravos Maytag washer. Dark clothes of all fabric types (we have maroon bedsheets) come out with streaks of lint. We had the dealer send a service person and we’re told that we must use the dryer in order for the lint to come off.

I USE A CLOTHESLINE year round. It’s VERY important to me from a number of perspectives. The irony is that energy efficiency in a washer results in the need to USE EVEN MORE energy by operating a clothes dryer. This is not progress

Hi @duckexpatriot ,

Just wondering if there is too much of a washing load in the machine, especially when you wash bedding.

I agree that it shouldn't happen and that a full load is a full load regardless but try washing with reduced loads or a higher water level for a lesser load to see if it resolves the problem.

It may be that the washing is not being rinsed properly thereby not flushing the lint (or the excess detergent) away.

Also try using less detergent. You may find that the washing machine manufacturers specify using less detergent for a certain load size than what the detergent manufacturers specify. No prizes for guessing why this is. ;-)

I’m using half the amount of detergent to what is specified by the detergent makers with no noticeable difference and no “lint”.

One + 1/2 TBS HE detergent (just as I always have with my HE front loader). The new Maytag top loader has water level sensing so it's not something that can be increased. Yes, additional rinses will help the problem. That's the irony: more energy is being required to compensate for the machine's innovative energy saving measures ;~(

I will try adding vinegar to the rinse cycle to see if that helps.

Has it got a Deep water wash option?

If so try that as it will fill to maximum water level. It will mean more water is being used and the cycle time will be longer due to the increased fill time but may save doing a double rinse or perhaps you can load the washer more as well.

Also have read that this option (if you have it) does not work with "Normal" cycle as auto sensing will be used instead

yes, the deep water cycle is an option. It doesn't eliminate the lint however. And it's disappointing to be forced to use longer cycles/more energy. Here's a pic of the lint problem. Kind of amazing to me and unexpected https://www.pixelpublishing.net/Send/May...

@duckexpatriot ,

Try dissolving the detergent in hot water in a jar (stir it till it fully dissolves) and then add it to the washer before starting the machine.

I always use cold water for washing and always dissolve the detergent first (regardless what the detergent maker says about cold water washing) and have no problems with lint, but then again I have a different washing machine and can pour the detergent down the middle of the agitator which I notice your machine hasn't got, but still it is in the water with the clothes and not being dispensed so to speak

Worth a try perhaps

k. will try that. And first (separate data point gathering) I'll try the vinegar in the rinse cycle
