Home Button Pairing Functionality
Hello guys,
I know the home button loses Touch ID if I swap the button, but will it still work as a home button?

No it will not work. You will need to purchase a universal home button for the return function to work.

What do you mean by universal home button?
@solsanchor If you just replace it with another home button from a different iPhone 8 it will not do anything it will just be cosmetic.
A universal home button will function the same as original except touch ID
• Press home button one time, back to home
• Press twice in succession, bring up the background running program
• Press home button for longer time, wake up Siri
• Press power button and home button at the same time, make screen capture

Yes, if you change the home button it will still work as a home button but will lose the touch i’d. Make sure to buy a home button that doesn't use wifi. They make a exact replacement that doesn't use wifi. I believe they are around 15 dollars or so but don't quote me on the price I haven't checked in a while. I just checked and You can buy one from ifixit for 25 dollars. It will fit a iPhone 7/7 plus 8/8 plus. That will take care of the problem and it will work normally. I know this works as I have replaced a few that were damaged.
