how hard is it to get a screen and install it, or is it better to buy another camera?

Michel, that depends on how comfortable you are in taking small things apart. you can download the service manual from here. then you can see what the repair will involve. There is also a great guide on here the screen is not very expensive and available at places like this. Good Luck and let us if you need any further help.
