After battery replacement mac crashes when sleeping.

After installing a replacement battery my mac crashes when put to sleep - regardless of whether the power adapter is plugged in. I’ve tried resetting the SMC and PRAM many times but the issue persists. The battery seems to work fine, except once the mac goes to sleep I have to restart it a few times before it will boot properly.

Any advice?
