Short wifi range after battery replacement

hello hello,

After doing a (seemingly successful) battery replacement the other day everything seemed to be working fine. Until this morning when I find out some wifi problems.

It only seems to pick up a wifi signal when I’m very close to the router. A weak signal when I’m only 6 meters away with a clear line of sight.

My first impression was a detached antenna, but I can’t seem to find such a cable in the phone. Anyone had this problem before? And perhaps the solution?

Did you ever get it figured out? I'm having the exact same issue. I ordered the WiFi replacement cable as well but I don't see it anywhere in the phone to replace it. Not sure what to do now

Hi @kas_boot ,

Not sure but this is either the GSM antenna or the WiFi antenna (supplier example only to show what it looks like).

The part number is GH42-05890A.

The part location can be seen ~3:00 minutes into this video.

Hopefully this is of some help.

Thanks @jayeff , I have ordered a replacement antenna and will post an update when it has arrived.

I hope this was indeed the problem!

Dear @jayeff, even with a replacement main antenna the problems seem to persist. Do you have any other ideas what the problem might be?

Hi @kas_boot

Bad reception is usually an antenna problem, bad loose connection etc. As I said it may not have been the WiFi antenna.

Perhaps also check under the back cover (see 2:04 minutes into the video I posted) as it appears that the antenna may connect to something there given that there seem to be contact points on the top of the part. Maybe it is dirty (smeared by fingers etc) and preventing a good electrical connection.

Without the schematics (I couldn't find any) it is difficult to know where else to look.
