ODD fan running full speed after re-assemby

I recently reinstalled a video card to my 2011 imac 27” After re-assembly, the ODD fan is running non stop 3500 rpm. After an Apple Hardware Test I received this error: 4SNS/1/C0000008:TS0P--124. Also included a screen grab of the Temps

Ive looked into all the sensors attached to the logic board and everything looks ok, although the Skin Temp sensor might be damaged, Is this sensor controlling the ODD fan?

Did you change the hard drive from the original?

I did, several years ago.

@jonnyvtg L5500 and L5501 are inductors for the ambient temperature sensor. L5510 and L5511 are for the ODD temp sensor

Yes, a failed right skin sensor can get the fans running at full speed. Remember that the fans are set to high by the hardware at the iMac’s startup. They are set to slower speeds several times a second by software, based on the various temperature sensor readings. So, if a sensor fails the fans go to high automatically.

Lets see the damage you think you may have to the Skin Temp sensor. also, looking at your fan speed, it seems a bit low. I would expect it to run faster

Thanks for the response, and the diagrams are very helpful. So it's possible for a damaged Skin temp sensor to trigger the ODD fan? I have added 2 new photos above for you to take a look at. The Skin Temp Sensor (with potential damage) and also the ODD Temp Sensor including L5510 and L5511.

@jonnyvtg the skin temp connector sure looks chewed up :-) Wonder what happened to it. You do want to think about repalcing that damage. Anyhow. Look slike your ODD sensor is visually okay. Of course that is not to say that the components may not have failed. Check it with a multimeter. (resistance across the inductor should be very low. If it is high it has failed) I still am not convinced that this is not a fan issue

The damage was unfortunately from myself. Removing it was near impossible- just wouldn’t budge. I just placed an order for a replacement skin temp sensor. And it will take me a few days to get my hands on a multimeter but I will proceed with testing the ODD fan inductors. I’m afraid if this test fails the repair is beyond my ability and guessing I’ll have to purchase a new logic board?

@jonnyvtg no. Get a new fan as well and see what that gives you when you replace those parts. I am sure that will fix it.

@oldturkey03 just ordered it as well. keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the help!

A common issue in this series is people tend to damage the sensor inductors L5500 & L5501 when lifting the cable connections located here:

Thanks Dan, I took a look, and it’s tough to tell but L5500 & L5501 appear to look undamaged, I added another photo above for you to take a look and let me know what you think. Thank you again.
