So after breaking my iPhone SE 2nd Gen, I got the front + back panel replaced and front and rear camera replaced with iPhone 8 parts. Everything is working fine again except for the autofocus on the rear camera. Nothing past a few inches is in focus.
I did a full restore and the problem persists. The repair shop tried 3 separated iPhone 8 rear cameras but it’s still there. Any ideas?

I have the same issue. I tested iphone SE camera with iphone 8 and viceversa.
Iphone 8 with SE camera works OK but iphone SE does not focus. In my opinion it happens because iphone SE parts are paired with the motherboard (camera, battery, etc).

Have you considered not using iPhone 8 parts?
Apple really hates part swapping, I’m surprised this even worked at all.

As mentioned above it could be an issue with the glass lens, however maybe it is an issue with the camera modules - although many parts are interchangeable between the iPhone 8 and SE, some are not. I looked at iFixit’s article and they didn’t say that the camera is interchangeable, and the iPhone SE does have a few extra camera features than the 8. In previous iPhones parts haven’t been interchangeable and if the problem persists it could be due to the camera not being cross compatible fully, (or maybe the lens housing is slightly bigger on the SE, so it doesn’t fit the 8’s housing - however I think it is more likely the camera module).

You would check this by seeing if the lens or lens glass has smudges on it and if it does clean it with a very clean lint free cloth. The lens glass can be cleaned with some isopropyl alcohol.
When I refer to the lens glass I mean the glass protecting it from the outside world and when I say camera lens I'm referring to the camera
