It looks like my macbook pro 17, came with the T9600 2.8 ghz logic board (661-5203). I have having trouble location a new replacement for less that $1500. Does anyone know where I can pick up a new logic board and can I replace the board with the 3.0 ghz (661-5204)?

According to what's wrong with the board, you may be able to get it replaced for a flat rate fee of $280 from Apple.

Apple wants $1200 to look at it and perhaps more depending on the extent of the damage.
What happened to it? Your apartment or home owners policy may cover5 it with a $500 deductible.
I checked into the home owners and it will only cover liquid damage if the damage was caused by an appliance failure, like the washining machine hose breaking, not a coffee spill.
