Sony dz950 DVD player brief white light and no power

Hi, I have a Sony DZ950 that suddenly became non-functioning. It could be because my house had a power tripped recently.

When I tried to turn on the DVD, the white light at the bottom of the DVD screen shows a white light for about half a second and fades out. It won’t power on so no error message and even the welcome message “Hello” is not showing. The DVD player just turned off as soon as the button is released.

I tried to open it up but see no obvious damage on all the fuses. AC power input is fine when measured with an ammeter. However, 12V and 5V output doesn’t seem to work. Can someone please guide how to pinpoint the exact issue from here?

It's Mike here 3 years later since you posted this and I'm experiencing exactly the very same problem. I've tried searching the internet where I didn't find the answer and here I'm comment presumably that you found the solution. Please reply to my comment on what you did to make your system functional again. At this point you're my only hope.

Hi,

Here’s the service manual for the player. Be patient as it takes a little while to go from processing to Download, once you have passed the security check and clicked on Go to Download, below the Document preview box.

Once you have downloaded the manual, go to p.34 to view the power board circuit and p.40 to view the block diagram for the power board control IC.

Hopefully this is of some help.
