APC Smart-UPS 1500va Bad Board? Bad Fan?

Hello,

I recently inherited an UPS from work. It looked practically brand new (very clean, no dust), but the company was going to get rid of it. Anyway, the battery was dead so I bought a replacement and swapped it in with no problem. However, whenever I’ve suffered from a power outage, the fan kicks on (as it should) but the fan never shuts off once power is restored and battery fully charged. On top of that, the fan makes a very loud noise that almost sounds like a helicopter.

I messaged APC and they said it was out of warranty and the issue could be a board.

After all of this, my question is: Is the board replaceable? If so, would anyone know a company that can service it or how to acquire a replacement board?

I’d really not like to shove out $600 if possible for a replacement.

@renuvian for now I would not think about replacing the board. I’d go for the fan first. This “fan makes a very loud noise that almost sounds like a helicopter” should not be normal. It may be a 24V fan so check that out before your order a new one. We would need to see the board where the fan plugs into. It does sound like it might be PWM adjusted and the speed control may have failed. Look for obviously damaged components like bad caps on the board. Of course, you will have to discharge the capacitors in your UPS so you do not have a shocking experience while working on it.

A board may also be quite costly and since you got this unit for a “decent” price, I would consider creating a work around with either a new speed control circuit or a simple switch. Post some good pictures of your board, fan can connector etc. with your QUESTION. That way we can see what you see. 기존 질문에 이미지 추가하기

Try a reset as well and see if that clears this up.

To do this, follow the below procedure;

1: Disconnect any attached load.

2: Unplug the UPS from the wall socket.

3: Disconnect the UPS' internal battery.

4: Push and hold the ""On"" button on the UPS for 5 seconds

5: Reconnect internal battery.

6: Plug UPS in to known good power source.

7: Turn UPS on.
