Works ok plugged in. Only at very high volume not plugged in. Cuts out

So these speakers are $500. I already had to have it replaced after like 2 months for a different issue. I barely use the thing. Yesterday I go to use it unplugged (which is the whole point of it) and even when I start it up the usual noise it makes starting up was replaced by a strange like click noise. The blue light is on like it’s normally operating and shows battery is fully charged. The only way it will play sound is when I turn it almost all the way up then it cuts in and out and sounds horrible.

Plugged in it sounds perfectly fine. You would think battery ? But it shows it’s fully charged and it wouldn’t effect the noise it makes when it starts up right? I wrote to the company but guarantee they won’t do anything past their short 6 month warranty window. I mean 6 months?

I did everything possible. Factory reset. Tried different devices. Tried Bluetooth and aux cord. No matter what same result. I’m so mad this thing might be broken. I can’t afford to replace it. I’m on disability and was a gift that I enjoyed so much. I took good care of it for that reason! These new modern stereos and stuff they only have like 3 things possible to try and fix. It drives me crazy.

You’re right it does sound like the battery. Not surprised that they would only give the battery a 6 month warranty but not on the entire device. That’s rough.

Since the warranty has expired the only thing to do is to open the speaker and firstly check if the battery is OK.

It may be indicating that it is fully charged but this may not mean that it is capable of handling the load etc. How long does it stay on for before cutting out?

Here’s a teardown video for the speaker which may help.

The battery model number (stop video at 5:49 minutes in) is SUN-INTE-213. If you determine that the battery is faulty then search online using the battery model number only to get suppliers.

If the battery appears to be OK then it will be more difficult trying to find the problem on the motherboard without a schematic. I couldn’t find one, you may have better luck.

The stereo doesn’t cut out. At low volumes it doesn’t do anything. But when I turn up the source really loud like almost all the way it will play for like split seconds here and there and will continue to do that. Now I haven’t let it continue doing that since it will blow the speakers . I haven’t seen the tear down video yet but looking it over today like most modern things I’m sure it’s a puzzle to open up. Hopefully I can determine if it’s the battery or not and just order a new one if that’s it. The company emailed me back and is offering me a new one for $379. Which is probably near their cost to make? Sounds expensive still. I actually paid $399 going and looking back. They now sell for $499. So $379 doesn’t sound like a deal to me at all. They also gave me a stereo expert nearby I could try and contact. I’m sure that would cost 1/3 of what the it costs just to figure out what’s wrong. It’s just BS that the warranty doesn’t extend from when you get the one they send you when the first one breaks.

Apologies. I thought that it cut out and not that it stayed on but no output when on low setting.

This appears more like an amp problem more than a power problem per se. Hopefully not both

As you say it may be more economical to get it repaired by an expert (who hopefully is familiar with JBL products) than pay for another identical one which may suffer the same fate if it is a design problem and which has no warranty
