YES! You can convert your old display. Check out this video from Luke Miani How to make a DIY Studio Display for just $600! (USB-C & Built-in camera!)

Here's the needed replacement T-CON board kit:

Wouldn’t it be nice to leverage your old 5K iMac systems display with the Mac Studio!

Sadly, Apple killed off Target Display Mode ;-{

What you can do is run remote desktop (via network) but then you don’t get the control directly on your Mac studio, you are just reaching across from your iMac to it, and you won't get the full benefit of the display either.

I’ve been also looking at this beast to replace my 2013 Mac Pro which currently has two 27” Thunderbolt displays connected to it. I will probably try to reuse my displays (at least they are Thunderbolt) and then upgrade to the newer Studio displays (maybe hold out till the Pro Studio displays show up (rumored) which will have mini LED backlight and/or the next gen XDR Display. Need to do the same checking on compatibility.

I don’t mean a software solution. I mean physically disconnecting the display from the logic board then using some interface to connect to the Studio.

@Daniel Trogdon - No I got what you wanted, You want to use your iMac's display in any form. Thats just not possible. Even if your took the raw display out you have no means to interface it to the Mac Studio.

The Mac Studio offers Thunderbolt-4 or a single HDMI port. Your iMac doesn't offer a workable connection as I explained using Target Display Mode which would be the ideal solution (if Apple offered it).

Let's review another setup to get a better idea why Target Display Mode would have been the solution. Have you ever used Target Disk Mode? Here's a good write up on how it works Understanding the Applications for Target Disk Mode As you can see the other systems drive is treated as if it where just a dumb external drive! Its not hindered by the remote systems CPU.

Sadly, we can't do that with the iMac 5K displays as Apple did there own T-CON logic as they where ahead of what the standards group was doing. So the only solution requires the remote systems (iMac) processes which is why you're out of luck ;-{

Here's a bit of supporting evidence on the same concussions I stated: M1 Ultra vs Mac Studio — What Apple Didn't Tell You! Jump to 15:33 - Can you use an old iMac as a Studio Mac display with Target Display or AirPlay?
