My Asus laptop been temps seem high.

I have a Asus Gx531gs-ah76 laptop it started to overheat and blow loud hot air when I immediately turn it on and then shuts off. I ended up buying thermal paste and thermal pads even cleaned the fans and everything. Now it stays on so I got to see what the temperature of the CPU and GPU looked like on the laptop . The laptop fans are still blowing air pretty loud and the temps reached in the overheating process. I'm thinking I need to buy new fans because the RPM is no where close to 3000 nor 4000 or my MOBO the problem but I just wanted an opinion on if something else could be the caused. I even changed the CMOS battery because it was below 3v and even my laptop internal battery was swollen.

Update I already removed my swollen battery and I'm waiting for the new one to arrive since someone stated it.

In the video you can hear how loud the fans sound.

Hi @kingstonja14

If the battery is swollen it should be replaced as it may become dangerous and cause more problems if it is left in there.

Here's a link to the parts for the laptop that may help. Use it to find the Asus part number for the parts etc e.g. battery - 0B200-03020000 and then search online using the part number only to get results for suppliers that suit you best. Note: the stock notice of Unavailable only applies to the supplier in the link.

Hi @kingstonja14 ,

Maybe wait until the new battery is installed and check what happens re the fans

A faulty battery can cause all sorts of weird things to happen.

Have you tried using it on the charger only, with the battery removed?

Yeah, it reacted the same.

@kingstonja14

What is the CPU fan rpm as shown in BIOS, is it 3,000-4000 rpm?

Also what is the CPU temp as shown in BIOS?

Do the fans run fast and CPU/GPU run hot in BIOS?

To get to BIOS press F2 on startup during POST. Apologies if you knew this already.

If both the fans are not operating as fast as they should there is still a problem why the CPU/GPU are getting so hot so quickly especially when in BIOS as they're not doing much.

Seems more like a motherboard problem than a fan problem

The CPU is RPM is 1738 the Temp is 188 °F/ 86 °C. Yeah, it's running hot immediately as the laptop powers on.

@kingstonja14

The fan rpm seems to be correct for the temp but the temp shouldn't be that high in BIOS. It should be around 45°-50°C.

So the fans are trying to cool things down by running fast and are just coping as you can now boot into the BIOS and the OS without shutting down.

Initially I would have suggested refreshing the thermal paste but you've done this so that just leaves the motherboard.

Is it only the CPU fan that is running fast or also the GPU fan as well?

If both maybe try making the integrated Intel GPU as the primary GPU and not the discrete Nvidia GPU or disabling the Nvidia GPU (Nvidia control panel?) just in case it is the discrete GPU that may be the cause of the problem.

Only other thing is to try and get the motherboard schematics (I can't find any) to find out if the voltage supplies are OK (faulty VRM on motherboard?) on the board or why the CPU is running hot.
