Will iPhone SE connect to computer with missing screen?
iPhone SE was left on top of car, fell off, probably run over only once. Screen was smashed, other things on screen (camera, home button) seem OK still. Phone wouldn't power up as far as I was able to tell. Pulled screen (somewhat experienced in screen replacement), inside of phone looks to be OK with no real visible damage. When plugged into the computer that it's been backed up to before it is not recognized. Measured battery voltage was slightly low when opened up (3.2 volts) and voltage was present at the battery connector when plugged in (voltage would come up and then drop, signaling to me that the phone is trying to "find" a battery to charge). After leaving phone plugged into computer overnight the battery is at proper voltage (3.9 volts) indicating that at least the charging system seems to work.
Asked at iPadRehab, was told that "image and touch" are needed to complete the handshake between the computer and the phone. Can anybody independently verify this?
When phone was missing calls would go straight to voicemail. When phone was plugged in just now I tried to turn it on with the top button thinking maybe it would then come alive on the computer but no. I then tried calling my number and it rang and rang instead of going directly to VM.
So do I just need a screen to make it come alive again?

I don't have the screen with me today. My goal was to see if the phone will be recognized without the screen to see if it's alive or not so I can determine if I should get a screen or a new phone. New screen, if phone does not come alive, could be kept for a spare but it's more of a time spent without the phone when I could just get another SE from FB and activate it.
