iPhone without liquid damage sizzles when connecting new battery

Hi! So the Iphone 8 plus in question had a replacement battery that died. Ive had this happen before where the phone becomes unresponsive and after I replace the battery all is good. So this time, when I try to connect the new battery, I hear a sizzling sound coming from somewhere. I did get alcohol everywhere to remove the battery, but even after a few hours it still sizzles.

Im just worried the battery might be whats sizzling so i havent completely connected it yet, but if it was the battery it probably wouldnt of stopped sizzling and proceeded to self destruct while not connected, is this safe to assume?

And second, if its just the alcohol frying, is it normal for a component to get that hot to make it burn off in a split second? Or is what i believe to be a battery problem maybe really something else that needs to be repaired by a professional?

Thanks for any input!

Cheech what concentration was the alcohol? It is possible that this is the residue cooking off from residual alcohol. Have you determined from what area the sizzling comes from? Yes, if it would be the battery it would have a short circuit no matter what; unless it is your battery connector that shortens it out. If nothing else, I would dry the inside off as much as possible and you might even try a few puffs of air-in-a-can to remove more of it. Then try it and if no change, replace the battery. Double check very closely to make sure you did not accidentally knock of any components etc. around the battery connector.

Hey, thanks oldturkey! The alcohol is 99% and I just verified the sizzling was coming from the camera area, and from what I can tell nothing by the connector is damaged. I tend to be overly cautious when i'm prying and try to use my finger power alone. I blew it with some compressed air and now it seems to be fine, thanks! So if something got hot enough to boil off the alcohol immediately is that going to be normal? If I hadn't heard the sizzle I would of put it together anyways but I cant unhear it and now i'm kind of paranoid

@Cheech yes, it can be. You'll be surprised how much heat our "modern electronics" can create in a hurry when there is something spilled that isn't liked :-)

Good move with the 99%

It is always good to be cautious when replacing the battery or even working with any of the batteries. All it takes it one puncture in the right spot and it may get hot and stinky. Give it another time to dry it out. Few more gentle puffs of air and then wait a few minutes and go for it.

@oldturkey03 Yep, so I gave it another burst of air, put it together and she seems to be back to normal again. I never had the sizzling before, must of been from using way too much alcohol and it was pooled up in just the right spot. Thanks alot for your help kind sir

@Cheech you are welcome and glad it worked out.
