Psp 1004 screen does not display
Hello everyone!
I recently acquired a psp 1004 which was advertised as powering on but not displaying anything.
After I tried my luck with a new screen it still did not show anything
In the image attached I managed to spot this corroded capacitor I think.(I am a beginner and looking to get into soldering this Christmas)
Could anyone help me ID it so I can replace it?
Thank you in advance!

AMA, What is the model number of your board? Should be written on the board somewhere. Having that would help in trying to find the correct schematic, but Sony products are notoriously hard to find schematics for!

Well what I am seeing here is this number:
TA-086
1-871-690-31
I have tried to search it online now that you mentioned and I am still kind of lost about it all😅

@AMA Yeah, did the same now and schematics and board views aren’t available :( Start by doing as @jayeff suggests, then clean off that corrosion using >99% isopropyl alcohol and a medium hard brush (like a toothbrush or something). Maybe you can get a reading with an LCR meter.

@AMA The corroded component is not a fuse, most likely a capacitor.
If you can see shapes/shadows when shining a light at an angle, you have a bad backlight. Could be the driver circuit, or it could be the backlight on the screen.

Thank you so much for the answers people!
I love this community and I will try all that was suggested in this thread.
As for now I have to wait until Christmas for a multimeter😅 so I can check everything properly
And once again thank you all so very much!!!
