Small part fell off the logic board, but my mac is still working

Hi guys,

I was replacing the inflated battery on my macbook pro 13' early 2015 (A1502) when a small part broke off near the battery power connector. The part is circled black in the image below. After I powered the machine up, the mac was running fine. Can anybody tell me what that part does and whether my mac will explode in the future. Thank you very much.

Dang Nam Anh that is reference designator C7135 which is a 1.0µF 50V 10% capacitor in a 0603 package. It is part of the Inrush Limiter circuitry of your Power/Charging circuit. I would replace it. No, it is not going to blow up.

First of all, thank you so much for answering my question.

Secondly, if I don't replace it, what is going to happen. As of now, my macbook is charging and performing fine, and I have little experience with soldering. Considering that this piece is extremely small, I might mess up the soldering process and fry the entire logic board. Would love your input on this, and thank you for your time.

@Dang Nam Anh the Inrush limiter circuit is supposed to limit the rush of incoming current when your device first turns on. That way, it will turn on slowly and does not "get hit to hard" with all the current at once. Very simplified but I do hope it make sense.

@oldturkey03 So if I don't replace the missing capacitor, there is a chance that the circuitry might get fried when I turn on the computer.

@Dang Nam Anh it is possible that you are going to get to mush current at once. Chances are slim and I do not want to tell you that it will or will not happen. I am definitely not as smart as the Apple engineers who designed that circuit. I do believe that in general they know what they are doing and that those parts are all there for a good reason. That is the reason why I would replace it. Hope that makes sense.

@oldturkey03 I understand now. Thank you so much and hope you have a great day!
