power status light on left side of laptop where power cord plugs in is blinking yellow light continuously -- it's usually not on at all or is on continuously with a white light.

What is the model number of the laptop as seen on the info label on the bottom of the laptop?
Check that the laptop is not in a Standby state by briefly pressing the Power button
